Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters is an upcoming 2014 American fantasy adventure film directed by Thor Freudenthal, with a screenplay by Chris Colfer, J. K. Rowling, and Darren Lemke. It is based on the third book in Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson series for young readers entitled "Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters" (2010). The film stars Logan Lerman, Alexandra Daddario, Jake Abel , Brandon T. Smith , Douglas Smith , Pierce Brosnan The movie will be set in New York City during modern times but will feature mythical creatures like Cyclopes and Gorgons living alongside humans in secret while facing impending war between monsters, centaurs and humans. The ancient god Hades (resurrected) with his minions, including Cyclopes, Gorgons, Furies, Stymphalian beasts and water nymphs will be the main antagonists. Percy Jackson must discover the truth behind his missing father or he will be defeated by his enemies.Chris Columbus is attached to direct the film adaptation of "The Son of Neptune" in March 2011, with Troy Nixey producing via his production company Nixey Films. The film was later announced to have been canceled due to a change in plans from Warner Bros., which was later announced to have been re-scheduled for May 18, 2013. On January 10, 2011, it was announced that the film rights to the second book, "The Son of Neptune", had been dropped by Warner Bros., but Brandon T. Jackson would still have a part in the movie because of his attachment to the project. The producers are still interested in making the film, however.On October 21, 2012, it was announced that Thor Freudenthal will direct "The Sea of Monsters" and Chris Columbus will return as producer and screenwriter. It was also reported that Logan Lerman would star as Percy Jackson. On November 2nd Chris Columbus tweeted “For all you Percy Jackson fans: I’m working on my sixth book with Rick Riordan (the 5th one comes out this May!). ”On November 9 it was confirmed that Alexandra Daddario would portray Annabeth Chase and Brandon T. Jackson will reprise his role as Tyson. On November 15, it was reported that Douglas Smith and Anthony Head had been cast as Clarisse La Rue and Chiron respectively. On November 17, Jake Abel was cast as Luke Castellan and Pierce Brosnan was cast as Mr. Brunner/Dionysus. The following week, Nathan Fillion also became part of the film's cast, to play Hermes. On January 31, 2014 it was announced Amy Bruni will play the role of Mrs. Dodds.The film was released on August 7, 2013 in Russia and on August 16 in United Kingdom.
