College football rankings Clemson takes No. 1 spot

There's a new No. 1 in college football.The Clemson Tigers have taken the top spot in both the AP Top 25 Poll and the Coaches Pollafter previous No. 1 Alabama was knocked off Saturday by the Auburn Tigers. The Tide fell to No. 5 in both polls.Clemson had a Ozzie Smith Jersey slight edge on Oklahoma for the No. 1 spot, receiving 27 first-place votes in the AP Poll to Oklahoma's 24. In the Coaches Poll, Clemson had a more decisive advantage with 25 first-place votes to Oklahoma's 12.With Alabama receiving its first lo s of the season, the top four in the Coaches and AP polls are wide open. The Wisconsin Badgers are the highest-ranked undefeated team, but strength of schedule is keeping the Badgers from the No. 1 position. Washington came out on top in the Apple Cup, improving to No. 13. The lo s for Washington State sent the Cougars down to No. 22 in the Coaches Poll and No. 21 in the AP Poll.BENDER: In both polls, the Big Ten and SEC represent the most teams with five each.
