How to Apply for Canadian Permanent Residency

A Canadian Permanent Resident is someone who is not a Canadian citizen but enjoys all of the same rights as one because the Canadian government has granted him the status of Permanent Resident.

If you want to apply for Canadian permanent residency, this post will help you understand your eligibility and give you a fair idea of the steps involved.

Permanent Resident/Immigration Programs

Each of the more than 80 programs available in Canada is designed for a certain audience, so applicants must carefully review all of the programs' requirements before selecting the one that fits their profile the best. The Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) or the Express Entry Programs are preferred by the majority of applicants. However, there are numerous alternative programmes that may be better suited to your profile.

Some of the most popular programs are listed below.

  • Federal Skilled Workers Program (FSWP)
  • Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP)
  • Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
  • Family Sponsorship Program
  • Start-up Visa Program
  • Quebec Skilled Workers Program (QSWP)

How to Apply?

The first thing you should do is gather all the necessary documents, which include your language test results, the ECA document, bank statements as proof of funds, previous academic transcripts, the medical certificate, the police clearance certificate (PCC), and any additional documents that are specifically required for your profile, if any.

The candidate has to create an account on the official website and submit the online application after compiling all the necessary paperwork. After submitting the application, wait for the IRCC's update. If the response is favorable, an Invitation to Apply (ITA) will be issued to the applicant's email, and then they can proceed with the PR application. They must apply under the program that is mentioned in the ITA.

Processing Time for PR Applications

The processing time for your PR application is mostly determined by the immigration program you apply for, as well as the time it takes the IRCC to issue your ITA. Once the ITA is received, the final response and decision should be received within 4 to 6 months.
